HP Laptop Recall

HP Laptop AC Adapters Cause Burns and Property Damage

This week Hewlett Packard announced a voluntary recall on laptops sold between September 2010 and June 2012.

These notebook computers have the potential to overheat, which can lead to fire and burn hazards. If you have an HP laptop and you think it may have been purchased between September 2010 and June 2012, we urge you to call us right away at (844) 336-4376. It’s not simply a matter of getting faulty technology replaced – these laptops pose a serious safety hazard, and we don’t want to see any of our clients harmed by something we can help with.

We highly recommend that you cease the use of all equipment under the voluntary recall. Clients affected by this recall will be eligible to receive a replacement power cord for each recalled AC power cord for no additional cost.

What should you look for?

Check to see if your laptop is marketed with “LS-15,” which is moulded into the connector that plugs in the AC adapter piece.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Hewlett Packard has received 29 reports of power cords overheating, melting and charring. The instances have resulted in two claims for minor burns and thirteen claims of damage to property.

Hewlett Packard has shipped approximately 5.6 million notebooks with the affected power cords in the United States and just under 500,000 in Canada. HP says that not all of the laptops are affected.

This recall also impacts HP Chromebook 11 charges with model number MU15-N1052-A00S. Replacement charges are offered through the HP Chromebook website.
